Windsor Tornado Devestation

I found this video on YouTube. Please continue to pray for the residents of Windsor and all the people who were affected by the tornadic activity recently.
Those who live in the shelter of the Most High
will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

What's Up With That?

It's not even Summer yet and we got the Fall catalog yesterday! What's up with that? Are there people already planning their fall wardrobe? What are they thinking? I just had to share this with you. I've never gotten a catalog this early before. I'm still trying to get my Summer wardrobe together. I can't think about Fall yet - I'm longing for Summer.

Tornado Devastates Weld County, Colorado

Please pray for the residents of Windsor, Colorado. Around 11:30 this morning, a tornado (an F2-F3 on the Fujita scale) touched down. Governor Ritter is declaring this county a state of emergency.

In this small town of 15,000, nearly 150 homes were destroyed. The funnel measured ¼ mile or ½ mile wide. With such devastation, I’m amazed that only 100 were injured and one life lost. It’s unclear when XCel will be able to restore power to the area.

One man reported that when he came up from the basement, half the house was gone and a Bible fluttered in the wind where the living room used to be. Golf ball and baseball size hail damaged countless roofs and vehicles.

Unfortunately, Windsor wasn’t the only town hit. Much of Weld County suffered damage.

Click here for video footage of the storm.

Click here for the story of the Windmill Daycare. One hundred children were saved by taking shelter in the vault at Bank of Choice - talk about saving important treasures!

If you are nearby and the Lord has laid it on your heart to be a part of the physical relief effort, please leave a comment or shoot me an email with your contact information. Click here if you’d like to help in a monetary way.

In Memory of Maria Sue Chapman (2003-2008)

Warriors, please pray for the Steven Curtis Chapman family.

A devastating accident took the life of five-year-old Maria, youngest of six.

There is no valley to deep for God.

Our prayers and love are with them.

Sharen's Goodbye Party

Sharensharensharen Song by Robbie Iobst

This is priceless! Robbie Iobst wrote and sang this song to Sharen Watson at her farewell party. We were all in stitches. I only caught the last two verses.

Sharen’s Song
By Robbie Iobst

Every Tuesday morning
We see the kindest gal,
And now that’s she’s leaving,
We’ll miss that Texas smile.

But more than her teeth
And her big ole Texas hair,
We’ll miss the chocolate
That she wants to push…I mean share!

Sharen, Sharen, Sharen, Sharen,
Sharen, Sharen, Sharen, Sharen,
Sharen, Sharen, Sharen, Sharen…Sharen!

There’ll be Words For The Journey in Houston,
And Starbucks decaf vanilla chai tea,
Gia and Ray are also going,
She’ll be near Scot and Shawna and Steve.

But she’ll miss teaching adjunctive clauses,
And telling us (laugh) “Ya’ll settle down!”
The cheers for courageous rejections,
And 3 hours lunches at the Lighthouse.

Sharen, Sharen, Sharen, Sharen,
Sharen, Sharen, Sharen, Sharen,
Sharen, Sharen, Sharen, Sharen…Sharen!

So every Tuesday morning,
We’ll miss the kindest gal,
Now that she’s leaving,
We’ll miss that Texas smile,

So here are some words for your journey,
Before we say goodbye,
May our Lord bless you and keep you,
And anoint every word you write!

Sharen, Sharen, Sharen, Sharen,
Sharen, Sharen, Sharen, Sharen,
Sharen, Sharen, Sharen, Sharen…Sharen!

Drive to Estes Park, CO

I just got back from Estes late Sunday afternoon. Then I unpacked and spent time with my DH, so I haven't had a lot of blogging time. No, I'm not sick, as some of you have asked.

Here is how the trip up there looked from my perspective, before we hit the windy roads. My BFF, Robbie, is in the car ahead. We drove separately since we were leaving the conference at different times.

Isn't it beautiful? Yes, it's hard to drive while video taping (that's why I taped on a straight road). No, I didn't almost hit that cyclist. In the video you feel as if I am driving off the road. I wasn't.

Newsboy's Something Beautiful is playing in the background.

Colorado Christian Writers Conferece

See those gorgeous mountains? I'm going up there today to attend the Colorado Christian Writers Conference and I can't wait. Please pray for me this week. I'll be back on Sunday.

I checked into mobile blogging but my phone service does not support it, so you'll have to wait to hear about it when I get back. The good news is that I usually get a signal up there when most services drop out, so I'll still get your comments. Have a great weekend.

What American accent do you have?

What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The West

Your accent is the lowest common denominator of American speech. Unless you're a SoCal surfer, no one thinks you have an accent. And really, you may not even be from the West at all, you could easily be from Florida or one of those big Southern cities like Dallas or Atlanta.

I always tell people I have no accent. This is proof - none, nada, zip. Now if they are from somewhere other than around here, they think I am the one with the accent. LOL. Take the test. It'll be fun.

Maid of Honor Movie Review

Tom thinks he has it all until he discovers he's in love with his best friend, Hannah. The day he chooses to pledge his love, Hannah introduces him to her fiancé and asks Tom to be her maid of honor. He complies in hopes of showing her she really doesn't know her fiancé, Collin, at all.

Predictable, though warm and endearing, it's a terrific feel good movie. SPOILER: I didn't find the prat falls funny; but I did find the scene in which Hannah's future MIL dresses her hair into the world's most hideous beehive, a hoot. And I loved the Scottish banquet where the future MIL says, "everything served was shot by Collin," and proceeds to show a video of the hunt and kill.

My mother's prayers

They have clung to me all my life.

Happy Mother's Day!

Friday

The Youngest Mother Award

Every year I dreaded the Mothers Day service. Would it happen this year? Would I be singled out once again? Would I have to smile and graciously receive a potted geranium for being the youngest mother in church? Yes, I was a child bride. Yes, I birthed our eldest just two months shy of my twentieth birthday, but did they have to emphasize it over and over again? One year we stayed home. But, Mothers Day is too significant to ignore so I hunkered down in the pew, hoping against hope that another young mother would materialize. Maybe we’d have visitors from out-of-state. Year after year, I endured and then one glorious Mothers Day another young mom received the geranium award. Hallelujah! God answers prayer!

Several uneventful years passed and I’d almost forgotten the geranium conundrum until it happened again. I was incredulous. Again? Why now? My youngest was eight for crying out loud! Tears of frustration spilled out, appearing like tears of joy. I don’t believe that geranium lived to tell about it, if you catch my meaning.

Finally, I called the pastor’s wife and cried on her sympathetic shoulder. The next year, nothing remotely resembling a geranium could be seen anywhere near our church.

That was fifteen years ago. Our eldest is expecting our first grandchild. The church we now attend awards each mother chocolate, which is agreeable with just about everyone. However, if the geranium award took place in our church awarding the youngest grandmother, I would gladly stand up and take a bow. Tears of joy would spill out unhindered. I might even throw in a curtsy for good measure. Then I would call our pastor’s wife and praise the geranium program. I’m amazed at the way my thoughts have changed since we’ve been expecting and the baby’s not even born yet!

Iron Man Movie Review

Tony Stark is a brilliant, rich, successful player, leading a shallow self-centered life until he is kidnapped and everything clicks into place. With newfound clarity and purpose, Tony sets out to right a grievous wrong made by Stark Industries, and in the process, Iron Man is born.

Robert Downey Jr. plays the role of Tony Stark as if it was made for him; and you won't be disappointed with Gwyneth Paltrow's performance either. Iron Man has it all: action, drama, suspense, romance and a satisfying ending which brought the crowd to their feet. What more can you ask of a film?
