Heat Wave

It's hot. Very hot. We are having record breaking temps here in Colorado and we just broke a record for 18 consecutive days over 90. This year is the third hottest and the third driest to date. It's been too hot to work in the yard. I'm very heat sensitive and haven't gone in the back yard beyond the barbecue since this heat wave started. Tomorrow, more record breaking heat and it looks like there's no end in site. Should I ask the dreaded question? Is it hot enough for you?

6 Quirky Things About Me

My BBFF (best blog friend forever), Dawn, tagged me for this meme. Stop by and take a look at hers. I'm taking a needed break from my other writing projects to participate. Even if I don't tag you, please feel free to play. Below are the rules:

1) Link to the person who tagged me.
2) Mention the rules.
3) Tell six quirky yet boring, unspectacular details about myself.
4) Tag six other blogger´s by linking to them.
5) Go to each person’s blog and leave a comment that lets them know they’ve been tagged.

1. I am 5'11" and I wear a size 12 shoe, which is very hard to find.
2. I love spicey food. The jallepeno ban is killing me!
3. I consider going to bed at midnight, turning in early.
4. I only like new music. Last summer we listened to Bon Jovi's, Lost Highway all the time. I now consider that last summers sound track. This year I'm enjoying Trace Adkins, Best Of.
5. I am not a morning person. Do not talk to me before I've had my first cup of coffee. (Photo above could have been when I found out there was no coffee in the rooms at the CCWC conference. I don't remember precisely what this was about. I think we were just being goofy.)
6. I am sound sensitive. My kids used to tell me I have the hearing of a dog.

I now tag:
1. Ruthie
2. Tonya
3. Flea
4. Jerri
5. Kay
6. Melanie
7. Anyone else? Leave a comment so I'll know to stop by.

We don't often all get together as a family so it was fun to have lunch with my parents and sister, Shari. Too bad my brother, Benny, wasn't able to come.

And Now for the Bad News...

A few days ago, I told you that I had good news and bad news. I’ve already told you the good news, if you missed it click here. The bad news is that on the 25th of this month, I’ll be having surgery to correct a hiatal hernia and GERD. Since this is a redo, they are using a different procedure than they did before, this time they’re cutting me open from breast bone to bellybutton. Due to my pain medicine intolerance, they will be doing an epidural and will keep it in for 6 days while I recover. I expect to be in the hospital for 6 nights. In my initial surgery, I had all sorts of complications. Please pray that things will go smoother this time, for Dr. Gill and Tracy as they perform the surgery, and for my pain management afterwards.

As I was praying about this God gave me a vision in which I was standing on the cusp of a valley, about to go through it. Then spoke Psalms 23:4. I especially like it in the Amplified Bible:

Yes, though I walk through the [deep, sunless] valley of the shadow of death, I will fear or dread no evil, for You are with me; Your rod [to protect] and Your staff [to guide], they comfort me.

Just last week, as I drove by Sky Ridge Hospital, I commented to a friend that I thanked God each time I drove by that I was not a patient inside. I spent a lot of time there in the summer of 2004. So the amplified version of the sunless valley really hit home. I’m not one to sunbathe, but I love being outdoors with the sun on my face. This aspect will be especially hard for me and I will covet your prayers.

He will spread his wings over you and keep you secure. His faithfulness is like a shield or a city wall. You won't need to worry about dangers at night or arrows during the day.

THE LORD is my Light and my Salvation--whom shall I fear or dread? The Lord is the Refuge and Stronghold of my life--of whom shall I be afraid?

Jan and Greg's Incredible Car Story

I Have Good New and I have bad news. You’ll have to come back tomorrow for the bad news. I want to tell you the good news first. Now the good news will seem like bad news at first but in the end, it’s good. God works like that sometimes.

We have (had) two older cars, both of them worn and ready to replace. We weren’t sure which should go first but we set the wheels in motion (pun intended) a little over a week ago. We stopped at the Chevy dealership and started talking. Their incentives are fabulous and we settled on a beautiful blue metallic gunmetal (true color name) Tahoe. We loved it, drove it around for a week and were extremely pleased with the purchase, until I took it back to the dealership to install the protective coating on the windshield. That’s when the unthinkable happened – they crashed into an engine hoist while backing up. I know, you NEVER hear about stuff like this happening. It has backup sensors for crying out loud!

I was in shock. I couldn’t believe it. I sent a 911 text to my DH and told him to come to the dealership ASAP. Long story short, we didn’t want the damaged Tahoe, even with the repairs. It only had 300 miles on it! They couldn’t replace that exact truck since the ’08 models are out of production, so we took back our Expedition and called it good. I lost all the time spent on the paperwork, installing low jack, installing the clear bra, etc and we were back to square one with two old vehicles.

This last Friday, it was 98 outside. Greg was off since we were supposed to go out of town (before the Tahoe debacle). This was the second weekend in a row that we tried to go somewhere! Instead, we’re shopping for vehicles. I like the exterior of the Chrysler 300, but I don’t like the interior. Besides, my DH thinks they look like mafia staff cars. It was not Parrishable. (Let me clue you in to the term Parrishable. Since our last name is Parrish, anything we really like is Parrishable. Not perishable, as those out of the loop think we mean. That or they think we’re crazy.)

Rolling with the punches, our salesman, Mike, tells us about the incredible Infinity just traded in - an ’06 M35X with 26000 miles, driven by an old couple (seniors for those of you who think we are old). We saw it while they were replacing windshield. The car looks new, but it’s a cocoa metallic and I was holding out for blue metallic gunmetal. Plus, the interior is black and I thought it would be too hot. It’s nothing like I had in mind for my primary car so I was somewhat skeptical. Did I say it was hot? So we were unmovable in the price and the price we were willing to accept for the trade-in. We discussed terms and said we would be back. Logically, it made sense. The car is loaded and it was a great deal. We were in the right place at the right time. Greg was happy, I was fairly happy, so we bought it.

When we took it to Lookout Mountain on Sunday, I was still pleased with the car until I drove it down the hairpin turns. I can’t believe how well it drove, gripping the road with ease. I don't like this car - I LOVE THIS CAR! In fact, I no longer need a motorcycle (this will make my mom happy).

Isn’t it great the way God takes a bad situation and turns it around for our good? Even as it was happening, I didn’t realize the extent of God blessing. Has that ever happened to you?

Installing a Husband - Marriage Monday

1st Monday Every Month at Chrysalis
Want this button?

Dear Tech Support,

Last year I upgraded from Boyfriend 5.0 to Husband 1.0 and noticed a distinct slow down in overall system performance — particularly in the flower and jewellery applications, which operated flawlessly under Boyfriend 5.0

In addition, Husband 1.0 uninstalled many other valuable programs, such as Romance 9.5 and Personal Attention 6.5 and then installed undesirable programs such as F.A.CUP 5.0, Wimbledon 3.0, and Golf Clubs 4.1.

Conversation 8.0 no longer runs, and House-cleaning 2.6 simply crashes the system. I’ve tried running Nagging 5.3 to fix these problems, but to no avail.

What can I do?

Signed,
Desperate

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

Dear Desperate,

First keep in mind, Boyfriend 5.0 is an Entertainment Package, while Husband 1.0 is an Operating System.

Please enter the command: ‘http: I Thought You Loved Me.html’ and try to download Tears 6.2 and don’t forget to install the Guilt 3.0 update. If that application works as designed, Husband 1.0 should then automatically run the applications Jewellery 2.0 and Flowers 3.5.

But remember, overuse of the above application can cause Husband 1.0 to default to Grumpy Silence 2.5, Happy Hour 7.0 or Beer 6.1.

Beer 6.1 is a very bad program that will download the Snoring Loudly Beta.

Whatever you do, DO NOT install Mother-in-law 1.0 (it runs a virus in the background that will eventually seize control of all your system resources).

Also, do not attempt to reinstall the Boyfriend 5.0 program. These are unsupported applications and will crash Husband 1.0.

In summary, Husband 1.0 is a great program, but it does have limited memory and cannot learn new applications quickly. You might consider buying additional software to improve memory and performance. We recommend Food 3.0 and Hot Lingerie 7.7.

Good Luck,
Tech Support
